Tablets and smartphones supported with Android OS come with loads of features. The one which I like the most is Google Maps as it is handy, comprehensive, accurate and easy-to-use. Google has launched the Traffic and Transit feature for Malaysia earlier this year and things got much better till the end of the year. On 12 December, 2012, Google announced the availability of Traffic layer for Ipoh, Melaka and Penang.
This new feature will make Google Maps more useful for those who live in these states and have long daily commutes. My colleague who is from Penang told me about this service by Google. She is happy as she will now be able to travel more smoothly.
The Traffic layer is an extremely helpful feature providing users with real-time road congestion data to help users in finding how to reach their destination quickly. Google projects colour on roads to help people identify the state of the traffic. Red colour indicates bumper-to-bumper traffic, Yellow shows slow-moving transit and Green for free-flowing traffic.
The data of traffic is gathered by various sources such as private data providers, government departments of transportation and Google Maps mobile users who contribute anonymous speed information via their traffic crowd sourcing feature. This data is refreshed every few minutes with the latest known status for up-to-date and accurate information.
All those who dwell in Ipoh, Melaka or Penang, can now have a smoother and hassle-free journey with Google Maps on their Android devices. You can also check the traffic conditions on your PC before heading off from your home.
